Abstract

Handicrafts play a crucial role in human life, showcasing the unique characteristics of each country through their distinctive regional traits. Similarly, the nearly extinct practice of stencil design has endured with its unique tradition. These artisans, the pride of Bangladesh, continue to work in this field. This discussion focuses on the tradition of stencil design using various metal sheets by these artists. In Bangladesh, there has been little research or writing on this subject. Consequently, information has been gathered through field research in areas such as Dhaka Jail, Chittagong Road, and Narayanganj. The study investigates and analyzes the past and present of stencil design practice, including motifs, artistic styles, materials and techniques, practical aspects, and possibilities in the context of Bangladesh. This research paper aims to gather and highlight relevant information by exploring the evolution of design over time and its unique characteristics.
