Abstract

The first-generation artists of Bangladesh are unique pioneers in the art practice of Bangladesh. They contributed to the development of art with their distinct artistic identities. Zainul Abedin, Quamrul Hassan, Shafiuddin Ahmed, and S.M. Sultan were the pioneers of fine art in Bangladesh. These artists worked with experimental media, themes, materials, and techniques. Although the artists of this generation were influenced by various styles in terms of media, materials, and technique, they managed to maintain their own distinctiveness. While there has been significant research on the lives and works of Bangladeshi artists, there have been relatively little focused research on the mediums, materials, and styles of their artworks. Moreover, their artworks hold particular significance in various branches of graphic design, which have inspired contemporary artists. Therefore, this article focused on highlighting the diversity of subjects, mediums, materials, and styles of the first generation of artists through various data. Hence, an attempt has been made to highlight the diversity of themes, mediums, materials and styles in the paintings of the first-generation artists of Bangladesh through various data sources in this article.
